Vancouver Island Mountain Centre, Mount Washington, British Columbia

The Vancouver Island Mountain Sports Society (VIMSS) is a non-profit umbrella sports organization that formed in July 2003. VIMSS provides yearly grants to competitive, emerging athletes from Vancouver Island (and neighbouring Gulf Islands) who compete in mountain sports. In addition to funding athletes, VIMSS has overseen significant infrastructure projects including trail expansion, trail access to Strathcona Park and a new Vancouver Island Mountain Centre. The Mountain Centre provides a central community hub for everyone wishing to enjoy the alpine with offices for coaches and staff, group accommodations and a multipurpose media room to review training runs and host journalists during events. The Centre also serves as a classroom for schools and other groups providing a venue for recreational users and related events.
